Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Alexandra Lyon Perelman moved to New York City to study journalism at NYU. She spent two years working as a Teach For America corps member, teaching and mentoring in Newark, New Jersey. After completing her graduate work at Columbia, she taught English at Baruch College Campus High School.
Alexandra has always had a penchant for fashion, and following the birth of her first child, she found herself searching for baby accessories that reflected her classic style. While at a Mommy and Me music class, she noticed many identical strollers parked outside and thought it would be chic and practical to personalize hers in some way. She decided to monogram her canopy with her son’s initials. Soon, other NYC moms caught on, and Carriage Couture was born. “I loved the idea that we could offer moms a way to express their personal sense of style through that all-important accessory- the stroller.”
When she’s not personalizing prams and baby apparel, Alexandra can be found practicing yoga, reading her favorite authors, Edith Wharton and Zora Neale Hurston, traveling with her husband, son, and their beloved french bulldog, listening to NPR, or searching the racks for vintage Chanel and YSL. She can’t live without: chocolate, engraved note cards, chucks, the beach, and of course, her collection of strollers.
